Super Talent DDR3-1866 Review - DDR3 grows up?
"Supertalent sent us their new DDR3-1866 dual channel memory kit, the W1866UX2G8. Will this finally be the turning point for DDR3 where it starts to outperform DDR2?

I was pleased to see the small, light modules with the heat spreaders conforming to the standard DIMM dimensions; and I was also pleased to see that the modules were single sided modules using merely eight chips per module.

The high 1866MHz data rate speed combined with the (for DDR3) low latencies of 8-8-8-24 should make for excellent performance, however given how far the modules push the state of the art, and how recent the P35 chipset is, I had my doubts about the modules being able to hit their advertised speeds - at least on some motherboards."

Crucial Ballistix DDR3 PC3-12800 Memory
"I've reviewed countless Crucial products in the past. Hard to believe it, but the first one was way back in 2001 and it was on the PC-2100 memory. Crucial has come a long way since then. As a matter of fact, the whole computer industry has excelled in the past few years. Memory speeds have to keep up with the current system advancements, so memory has become faster and faster. There is a big difference between PC-2100 DDR memory from yesteryear and today's Crucial DDR3 Memory.

The demands that are put on memory these days are enormous. With image/video editing packages and games requiring more and more memory, 1GB of memory is hardly enough anymore. Games like Battlefield 2142, F.E.A.R., Splinter Cell Double Agent, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and many more require a minimum of 2GBs to play at high resolution. Upcoming games being released in 2007 will further benefit from having 2GB of memory installed. Games like Medal of Honor: Airborne, Bioshock, and Crysis will defiantly aid from 2GB of memory. As a matter of fact, if you can afford it, go with 4GB. Additionally, Microsoft Windows Vista operating system requires more memory than XP. I would recommend nothing short of 2GB of memory if you are installing Vista. Let's get on with the review."

2x1GB OCZ Platinum PC3-10666
"2007 won't be known for much but it will be known for one thing amongst the computer enthusiasts and that is the introduction of DDR3 memory. Good-bye DDR2, time for some new blood."

Corsair DOMINATOR TWIN3X2048-1800C7 DDR3
"One of the computer world’s most famous quotes (although he probably never said it) is of course Bill Gates saying that ”we will never need more than 640 Kb of memory”. As we all know there can never be “enough” memory in a computer system. As memory gets cheaper and the upper limit of what the processor can address has increased, the memory need of the software we use somehow keeps increasing. Not only that, as the performance of the other components in a system increases, so does the demands on the memory.

While we have seen DDR3-memory for a while on video cards it is just now that this standard has started to appear in the regular system memory. Currently the only chipset that supports the new memory type is the P35 chipset from Intel but in the not so distant future (or even now depending on when you read this) Intel’s new X38 chipset will also have support for it.

Today I am reviewing a high-end DDR3 memory kit from Corsair: the TWIN3X2048-1800C7DF G DDR3 1800 MHz CAS DOMINATOR (I challenge anyone to say that really fast three times), from now on called the DOMINATOR Twin3X2048-1800C7D. While the highest official speed of DDR3 is 1333 MHz, Corsair has already managed to get even more speed out of it getting it to run at 1800MHz."

OCZ Technology PC2-8500 Reaper HPC CrossFire Edition 2GB Kit
"OCZ Technology has been making memory for the enthusiast market for quite some time. They specialize in combining quality memory chips with stable PCBs, and this formula has allowed them to maintain an avid following throughout their history. Another part of the OCZ Technology strategy that helps them compete with much larger companies is their customer service and lifetime warranty. According to their website, every memory module they make is backed by this commitment."
